#DimesForDylan Fundraiser

Dec 20th, 2016 | By | Category: School

In conjunction with the Bourassa family, Harrisburg Boys Basketball, and Harrisburg Girls Basketball, it is an honor to announce #DimesForDylan, a pledge drive to support an amazing young man.

Dylan Bourassa is a 13-year-old 8th grader at Harrisburg South Middle School. He is smart, athletic, and has a great sense of humor. Dylan loves to compete, especially in basketball. In February 2016 Dylan suffered a foot injury. When his foot had not healed after 8 weeks, he went in for more tests. What doctors initially thought was plantar fasciitis was Malignant Ewing Sarcoma, a very rare cancer that grows in the bone or soft tissue around bones. After Dylan underwent several rounds of chemotherapy it was determined he needed surgery to remove the cancer. Dylan had his left leg amputated below the knee in September 2016. He currently is preparing for another round of chemotherapy right before Christmas. His goal is to return to school the second semester of the 2016-17 school year.

Throughout the entire process, Dylan continues to demonstrate unwavering positivity. Rarely can he be seen without his trademark grin. Dylan takes nothing for granted; he earns everything he gets. The Harrisburg community has rallied around Dylan and the entire Bourassa family, using the hashtag #DylanStrong.

The #DimesForDylan pledge drive is simple. Donors pledge a specific amount for every assist the Harrisburg Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams tally throughout the 2016-17 season. At the end of the season, donors will be contacted with the assist totals and their pledge total. Donors are free to pledge as little or as much per assist as they like. One-time donations are also gratefully accepted.

To become a #DimesForDylan donor, look for the sign-up table at the first four home varsity basketball games. Also, you can sign up by using the following Google Form link. Additionally, #DimesForDylan is on Facebook and Twitter! Search “DimesForDylan”.
